Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union

One Health Conference

5-6 November, 2025
UN City, Copenhagen

Hosted by the Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries of Denmark and WHO Europe

About the One Health Conference

The One Health Conference at the UN City in Copenhagen, hosted by the Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries in collaboration with the WHO Regional Office for Europe, is a flagship event under Denmark’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

For the very first time, civil servants with expertise in veterinary, human, and environmental health from across the EU will come together under one roof, joining forces around a shared goal. The One Health Conference will focus on how we collectively find good practice solutions to advance collaboration and the implementation of the One Health approach, acknowledging the interdependence between human, animal, plant, and environmental health.

This conference is not merely symbolic - it is practical. It aims to turn One Health principles into coordinated, real-world outcomes. By uniting EU Member States, international organisations, researchers, and key stakeholders, the event seeks to build a shared understanding, align policies, and drive collective progress.

The event will conclude with the ‘Copenhagen Recommendations on One Health Collaboration – Solutions and Practical Steps’, a roadmap for strengthening One Health collaboration between human, animal, and environmental authorities across the European Union.

Together, we can build resilient health systems — for people, for animals, and for our shared environment.

Introduction

The European Commission’s vision for agriculture and food has highlighted the need for EU countries to increase their resilience to future crises. Across Europe, authorities face shared challenges: zoonotic diseases, pandemics, epidemics, antimicrobial resistance, climate-related crises, food safety issues and environmental pollutants that transcend borders.

No country or sector can tackle these challenges alone. We must acknowledge that human, animal, environmental health are deeply interconnected — and that true progress comes through coordination, communication, and collaboration across sectors, across agencies, and across borders.

The One Health approach is a crucial cornerstone that enables a coherent approach to protecting universal goals relating to environmental health, human health, animal health, plant health, and food safety.
