About the One Health Conference

The international One Health Conference in Copenhagen, hosted by the Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries in collaboration with WHO Europe, is a flagship event under Denmark’s EU presidency. This conference aims to foster stronger cooperation between authorities and inspire EU Member States to adopt solutions that advance a unified One Health approach.

Focusing on pressing issues such as antimicrobial resistance, zoonotic diseases, and food safety, the conference will highlight effective policy responses and showcase good practices. Key themes include the practical implementation of One Health strategies, improved intersectoral coordination and collaboration, and driving communication and behavioral insights.

By promoting dialogue between the human, animal, and environmental health sectors, the One Health Conference aims to promote a shared understanding, align policies, and support transformative action. The goal is to strengthen Europe’s resilience and capacity to address current and future health challenges through a truly integrated One Health approach.

Introduction

The European Commission’s vision for agriculture and food has highlighted the need for EU countries to increase their resilience to future crises. The new reality of significant and severe crises, starting with the COVID-19 pandemic and later the growing number of animal and plant diseases and more extreme weather conditions, has put pressure on European food safety.

One Health (the collaboration between the human, veterinary, and environmental sectors) is a crucial cornerstone that can ensure a coherent approach to protecting universal goals related to environmental protection, human health, animal health, plant health, and food safety.
